About Dr. Bausum

Dr. Anna Bausum is a licensed naturopathic doctor with a variety of clinical interests and ability to consult on a broad range of concerns in the integrative, natural, and holistic medicine space. She is particularly passionate about supporting individuals who are managing cancer diagnoses as well as supporting individuals with health concerns at the intersection of environmental medicine. Dr. Bausum works with inter-professional colleagues and incorporates naturopathic, functional, and holistic approaches to her recommendations.

Her approach is simple. It is one that asks for an individual to take on a role of active participant in their care alongside their conventional treatments. Evidence informed diet and lifestyle modifications are essential in addition to the both conventional and complementary medicine recommendations. Dr. Anna Bausum has seen individuals benefit time and time again from this integrative and well-rounded approach.

Naturopathic oncology support garnered her attention early thanks to a variety of experiences that showed her traditional oncology care was failing to address some very important fundamentals necessary for individuals to thrive at all stages of cancer care. Dr. Bausum believes it is paramount to put quality of life at the forefront of all recommendations. These recommendations are tailored to each unique individual’s needs, diagnosis, and circumstances. It is important to note, naturopathic oncology support does not treat cancer. Rather, this area of expertise is one designed to minimize side effects, support recovery, enhance quality of life, and optimize outcomes for those individuals motivated to incorporate evidence-informed, holistic therapies alongside their conventional treatment plan.

Dr. Bausum graduated as a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine from Bastyr University in California and holds a Bachelors of Science from Emory University from where she graduated with the distinction of being named to the list of Who's Who of American Colleges and Universities and Emory's 100 Senior Honorary award. She has experience and training in a wide variety of medicine, including training from the Institute for Functional Medicine, functional health literacy research at Northwestern University School of Medicine, work experience in translational bench research and interventional clinical trials, and has participated in a wide variety of health advocacy work including participating in a round table discussion on the state of healthcare with the Secretary of Health and Human Services, national legislative lobbying, and more. Outside of her time spent in healthcare, she enjoys spending time outdoors or on her yoga mat.

The term patient is derived from the Latin for “to passively endure”. Where naturopathic medicine shines is in it’s call for an individual to become an active, empowered participant in health, rather than merely be a patient.
